The Blue Guitar   Q & A EXIT

Q:   Hi, I have the delta blues 210 and used your classic 30 mod instructions, but I have a few questions, first the C2 on my amp is a small blue rectangular box not white, but I'm guessing that may be just a difference in the year of the amp maybe, After completing all the mods the bass and midrange controls are not normal ! I have too have the bass at zero and the midrange at 12 too get a good full tone out of my amp ! you don't mention any polarity differences with the caps, but is there any with a positive and negative side? Thanks ! -- Paul     Paul Stanley

Q:   Hi I'm looking at your TBX mod for optimization but I wander if it would be usable as is for a Fender jazz bass which I'm replacing original Fender single coil PUs with Bartolini passive humbucker? (New CB serie)I'm also intend to move to 500K pots to fit the humbuckers and doing the volumes treble cut mod at the same time...

THank you.

Q:   Dave Funk talks about "local feedback" inductive/capacitive coupling to find a "sweet spot" where an amp sustains. Dumble talks about "circuit constants" which I guess is local feedback and ground currents. Have you figured out how does one tunes/does this? -- brent     brent

  Q:   Hello Steve,
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences with those of us "Novice" D.I.Y.-guys! I have many projects in the works,(ie: FX pedals, Guitar Mods, etc...) but my most important question is:
Do you have any Projects/Mods for the Peavey Valve-King VK112 Combo amp? I just bought one used, and I haven't seen any D.I.Y. Mods/info out there yet about this amp.
Since you've worked a lot with the Peavey Classic 50/30 Amps, I was hoping that you can help me/"Us" take this amp to the next level!!
Please help, even if it's just a "link" in the right direction.
Thanks Again,
Rich St.James

Q:   Re: the "Hybrid Amp" that you have schematics for... interesting design! Is that yours? Can you tell me more about it? I may want to try building it, although I've never done relays and I heard that they can be noisy. Then again, it looks like that problem was addressed, e.g., with a resistor on the boost relay. -- James     James Aikens

Q:   hiyas. seems to be a tad of confusuion out on t'interweb as to wether the peavey delat blues is fixed bias or cathode bias. i believe it is non adjustable fixed bias. i'd love to convert mine to cathode bias, so any ideas as to how i'd do this? i've just re-capped everything and re-valved and while it's guts are out i'd love to cathode bias it or maybe even mod it so i can switch between cathode and adjustable fixed! am i asking too much?
many thanks

Q:   Steve, I did the SLO mod on my v33H and did a couple of things different. I used a 1.8K instead of 1.5 for R28 and I used a .002 uf for the bypass cap from c5 to r77 instead of the .001 uf. The later one was a mistake and the first one was because that's what I had at the time. I also removed what I thought was a solder bridge between pins 2 and 5 of what I think was SW1. But now I'm thinking that was meant to be there but looking at the schematic I can't see why. I've got elctroharmonix 12ax7 for v1 andv2 and a mullard for v3, 12at7 I think. The overdrive channel seems to be a little bit muddy and I'm wondering if it's the bypass cap, or is that making it brighter? It's only a bit muddy with the humbucker schecter I have. Thanks for a really great mod for all of us. -- Fred     Fred

Q:   I am building my first small tube amp. I am having problems with the power transformer. I have to many volts 450volts after a solid state rectifier. Its just a small 5 watt amp and i only need 300 to 330 volts after the rectifier is there anything i can do to lower this? -- Andy     Andy
